Yokohama plants earn safety, health certification

April 10, 2012

The Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. reports that three of its plants in Japan and China obtained JISHA (Japan Industrial Safety and Health Association) Standards Certification for Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OSHMS) in January 2012.

They are the Onomichi Plant (manufacturing tires for construction and industrial vehicles) in Japan, Hangzhou Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd. (manufacturing tires for passenger cars), and Suzhou Yokohama Tire Co., Ltd. (manufacturing tires for trucks and buses), both in China.

The Hiratsuka factory (including the Hamatite and the Hiratsuka-East plant) and the Mie, Nagano, Mishima, Ibaraki, Shinshiro and Shinshiro-Minami plants had already obtained this certification. With the additional Onomichi plants, all domestic locations have done so.

Yokohama Rubber has been working at each of its domestic and overseas production locations to obtain the certification.

The Yokohama Rubber Group's concerted efforts in the realm of corporate social responsibility are in accordance with seven key issues set forth in ISO26000, an international standard for social responsibility.

Yokohama Rubber deems creation of safe and healthy working environments to be a key issue and focuses on establishing safety systems at each of its production sites.

OSHMS is the principle mechanism for Japanese companies to promote their safety and sanitation activities, facilitating improvements to working environments.
