Using its renewed Environmental Mission Statement as a guide, Bridgestone Corp. "will take further steps to enhance environmental management throughout its businesses," say Bridgestone officials.

Three areas have been identified for "environmental progress. The first two -- Operations and Product Services -- encompass the (Bridgestone) group's business activities and include energy and natural resource efficiency through product design, manufacturing and delivery.

"The third area, Community Activities, includes a wide range of efforts, such as engaging in community-based wildlife habitat improvements and environmental education, as well as helping drivers improve fuel mileage."

Bridgestone officials say the Tokyo, Japan-based company is committed "to a diverse range of environmental activities that go beyond its already wide-ranging business areas. These measures include reducing the environmental burden generated by production activities, developing and marketing products with enhanced environmental performance, and expanding its retread tire business."
