Bridgestone Metalpha U.S.A. Inc. (BMU), the producer of steel cord used in Bridgestone Corp. tires, has named a new leader.
Bruce Johnson has been promoted to CEO and president for BMU. Johnson has served as plant manager and executive vice president since 2013 and will assume the role vacated by the retirement of Yoshiaki Yamada.
“With extensive management experience in the manufacturing sector, Bruce is highly esteemed in the industry and a proven leader,” says Yamada “Bruce’s added knowledge and understanding of Bridgestone operations solidifies his leadership and management talents which will lead the company toward continued success.”
Johnson’s manufacturing and management experience spans decades. During his 24-year tenure with Bridgestone, he served as plant manager for Bridgestone’s LaVergne Plant in Rutherford County, Tenn., as well as Bridgestone’s manufacturing facility in Warren County, Tenn. He has held other positions of increasing responsibility throughout his Bridgestone career. Johnson earned an associate degree in computer science technology from Gadsden State Community College and a bachelor’s degree in management and human resources from Trevecca Nazarene University.
BMU recently invested $75 million in its Clarksville operations to increase daily output by 10%, expanding the plant’s size by more than 123,077 square feet and creating new jobs. Expansion began in 2012 and the plant is on track to reach full capacity early in 2020.
