Continental recalls grand touring A/S tires

Dec. 2, 2014

Continental Tire the Americas LLC is recalling certain ProContact GX SSR MOE tires, size 225/45R18 95H XL, manufactured June 22, 2014, to July 28, 2014. They were used for front axle fitment on 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign ID number for the recall is 14T012. The potential number of affected units is 5,993.

According to NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation, the affected tires may have been deformed during the curing process, which could cause the tire tread to appear distorted when inflated.

"A tire that was deformed during the curing process may suddenly fail during use, increasing the risk of a crash," says NHTSA.

Continental has notified owners. Tire dealers or Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the tires free of charge. The recall began on Oct. 30, 2014.

Owners may contact Continental customer service at (888) 799-2168 for more information.
