Ex-Armstrong Tire President James Dies

Paul James, former president of Armstrong Tire Co. and BFGoodrich executive, has died at the age of 90.

Born in New Cumberland, Pa., in 1935, he was the eldest of five children.

After graduating from Cornell University, James began his tire industry career in 1956 as a chemist with BFGoodrich, soon moving to the company's tire design department and then advancing to vice president of research and development.

James and his family eventually moved to Connecticut, where he served as Armstrong Tire's vice president of research and development and was eventually named president of the company.

He served as president of Pirelli/Armstrong in the U.S. until his retirement in 1992.

In retirement, James was active with a number of civic and charitable organizations.

Preceded by his parents, Joseph and Ruth James, and two brothers, Thomas and Josepth James, he is survived by his wife, Brenda; son, Eric James, and his wife, Annette; daughter, Kimberley, and her husband, Doug; a brother; a sister; and four grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be scheduled at a future date, according to his obituary.
