Michelin to Close Plant in Mexico

June 11, 2025

Michelin North America Inc. is winding down production at its plant in Queretaro, Mexico.

The plant currently makes fewer than 500,000 small BFGoodrich brand passenger and light truck tires annually. It also contains a truck tire retread shop.

In a statement, Michelin officials said that "the market trend for passenger cars and light trucks is shifting toward larger sizes, which the Queretaro plant doesn't have the infrastructure to produce" and the factory "has become economically and technologically obsolete."

The decison to close the plant was made "after evaluating all possible alternatives," according to Matthieu Aubron, CEO of Michelin's Central American region.

The plant, which opened in 2002, is scheduled to close by the end of 2025.

The company "remains fully committed" to manufacturing tires in Mexico and will continue to operate its PLT tire plant in Leon.
