Hankook Survey Looks at Off-Road Driving
Interest in off-roading is highest among younger drivers, according to the results of the latest Hankook Gauge Index Survey.
Poll results "uncovered fascinating insights into the confidence and interest among American drivers when it comes to going off-road on an all-terrain adventure – from the types of off-road adventures they’d most want to take to their confidence in taking on challenging terrains and weather conditions," according to Hankook officials.
The survey found that interest in off-road driving is highest among members of Gen Z, as well as Millennials, while seven out of 10 overall respondents said they are interested "in trying at least one type of adventurous driving, with off-road proficiency leading the way as the top recreational driving skill" that respondents expressed interest in.
When it comes to types of all-terrain driving, "forest trails are drivers’ overall top pick ... with those living in urban areas especially itching to get into it with Mother Nature."
Slightly more than 60% of respondents "are confident that their current vehicle could handle driving off-road for an emergency. And while the overwhelming majority of drivers (84%) feel confident about driving in rainy weather, nearly two thirds (63%) feel just as confident handling their vehicles in either mud or rocky, rough terrain, despite only 8% reporting their vehicle is equipped with all-terrain or mudding tires."
