Representaives from the Tire Industry Association (TIA) and the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB) recently traveled to Capitol Hill.

Their mission: to advocate for the passage of the  Retreaded Tire Jobs, Supply Chain Security, and Sustainability Act (S.2790 / H.R.3401).

The TIA/TRIB delegration was led by TIA CEO Dick Gust; Roy Littlefield IV, TIA vice president of government affairs; and David Stevens, TRIB's managing director.

"Discussions with congressional offices focused on advancing federal policies that strengthen domestic manufacturing, promote sustainability and ensure fair competition for U.S.-made retreaded tires," say TIA officials.

"S.2790 and H.R.3401 are bipartisan companion bills introduced in Congress that would prioritize the use of retreaded tires in public and private fleet procurement. The legislation also creates a tax credit of up to $30 per retreaded tire - or 30% of the purchase price -for eligible purchasers, promoting cost savings for fleets and taxpayers, supporting American jobs and reducing scrap tire generation and environmental waste."

"This is bipartisan, practical legislation that strengthens supply chains, cuts costs, and supports American workers,” says Gust.

The delegation included industry leaders Mike Jacobsen of Purcell Tire & Rubber Co., Brian Chase of Rice Tire, Doug Conley of Shamrock Marketing, Wonderland Tire Co.'s Jason Cleveland and Rob Majewski  and Ron Elliott of Pre-Q Galgo Corp.

Throughout the day, the group met with congressional staff from the offices of Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO); Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD); Representative Andy Barr (R-KY, 6th District); Representative Bill Huizenga (R-MI, 4th District); Representative Robert F. Onder Jr. (R-MO, 3rd District); Representative Rob Bresnahan Jr. (R-PA, 8th District); and Representative John W. Rose (R-TN, 6th District)

"The meetings highlighted how the U.S. retread industry supports thousands of American jobs across small, mid-sized, and large businesses, while improving fleet efficiency, lowering costs for public agencies and contributing to a more sustainable transportation sector."
