TBC Corp. has announced an expanded leadership role for Gary Skidmore, chief operating officer for Big O Tires, as a member of TBC’s executive team. Skidmore reports directly to Don Byrd, CEO and president of TBC.

According to TBC officials, Skidmore’s elevated role builds on his more than 20 years of leadership success at TBC. Big O Tires has also had more than 10 consecutive years of same-store sales growth under Skidmore’s leadership.

“Under Gary’s leadership, Big O Tires is setting an industry standard for helping franchisees build successful businesses,” says Byrd.

“His deep industry knowledge and team-oriented leadership style continue to play a pivotal role in driving franchisee profitability and sustainable growth for TBC.”

Skidmore began his career in the automotive service business nearly 40 years ago as a tire changer at his family’s Big O Tires franchise shop in Clarksville, Ind. After earning success as a Big O Tires franchise owner, he joined TBC, where he has served in a variety of leadership roles.

TBC has also named Doug Sergent as its chief legal and compliance officer.

In this role, Sergent joins TBC’s executive team and will oversee the company’s legal affairs, compliance and corporate government functions.

Sergent reports directly to Byrd, as well.

Sergent has more than 25 years of legal experience, with more than a decade at TBC. He joined TBC in 2012 as vice president, assistant general counsel and was promoted to senior vice president, general counsel, in 2023.

“Doug’s broad view of the operational and management sides of our organization, paired with his exceptional legal expertise and unwavering commitment to integrity, will continue to be an asset as we drive the company forward,” says Byrd.

“As Chief Legal & Compliance Officer and a member of the executive committee, he will now play an even larger role as we position TBC for continued growth and operational excellence.”
