Bridgestone Sells TBR Plant to Sailun
Bridgestone Corp. is selling an already shuttered truck tire plant in China to Sailun Group Co. Ltd. for $265 million yuan — $36.9 million.
The plant, which previously operated as Bridgestone (Shenyang) Tire Co. Ltd., closed after Bridgestone announced in February 2024 that it was pulling out of the commercial tire business in China. The plant opened in March 1996, but according to Bridgestone its net sales had fallen from $135.4 million in 2022 to $128.1 million in 2023 and finally $3.1 million in 2024.
The plant hadn’t operated profitably in any of those years, Bridgestone reported, and the sale will have a “minor” impact on Bridgestone’s 2025 financial results, the tiremaker said.
For Sailun, this plant will expand the company’s footprint in China, where it already operates three factories as well as a R&D center and vehicle test center.
Bridgestone said the ownership shares of the plant are expected to be transferred on July 31, 2025.
