Continental Supplies OE Tires for Volvo EX60
Key Highlights
- Continental's EcoContact 7 S will be the OE tires for the Volvo EX60.
- The tire incorporates "aerodimples" on the sidewall to reduce air turbulence and improve energy efficiency.
- The EcoContact 7 S has a specially-tuned tread pattern to lower rolling noise and is EV-compatible.
Continental Tire will supply the EcoContact 7 S as original equipment for the fully electric Volvo EX60.
The tire has been approved in sizes 235/55 R20 for the front axle and 255/50 R20 for the rear axle, according to officials. Both versions feature an integrated rim protector (FR), an area on the sidewall that "reduces the risk of rim damage."
"The EcoContact 7 S is a sporty summer tire designed for low rolling resistance, high mileage and low rolling noise," say Continental officials. "As the sportier version of the EcoContact 7, the S version places particular emphasis on wet grip and handling. This gives the EcoContact 7 S a more direct and responsive feel, along with enhanced grip."
The tire also features the EV-compatible logo on its sidewall, identifying it as particularly suitable for electric vehicles.
To optimize efficiency, Continental has adapted a design concept from golf balls that makes small indentations in the tire's sidewall, known as Aerodimples, and reduces air turbulence behind the tires. This means that less energy is required to keep the vehicle moving.
The tire also features "specially-tuned tread pattern" that reduces rolling noise, particularly when driving at low speeds in urban traffic, say officials.
