The Tire Industry Association (TIA) will offer two 400-Level Commercial Tire Service (CTS) Instructor Training and Certification classes at the start of 2021, one in-person and the other virtual.
“The reason for this change is to avoid what happened in 2020 with in-person classes having to be cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic,” says Kevin Rohlwing, TIA senior vice president of training. “This is a step to ensure that we can provide training to everyone who wants it, whether that’s in-person or online.”
The 400-level certified CTS training course covers all aspects of commercial tire service including OSHA standards, mounting/demounting, wheel installation and torque, road service, tire balance and repair. Students who pass the course will be certified to instruct TIA’s 300-Level Certified Technician Course in the field.
The virtual training class will be held Jan. 26-29. The in-person class in Tampa, Fla., which originally was scheduled for December 2020, will now take place Feb. 2-5.
Students in the in-person class with fewer than two years of experience servicing truck tires can sign up for an early session on the first day, from 8 a.m. – noon, where they will physically mount and demount a tire and install and remove a wheel assembly from a truck using impact and torque wrenches.
Students taking the virtual class will watch live training demonstrations by TIA trainers. Class size for the online course is limited to 20. The in-person class is limited to 15 to allow for social distancing.
