Pirelli & Cie SpA says the new McLaren 765LT supercar will run on its P Zero Trofeo R tire, which the tiremaker calls its "best-performing track day tire that's also entirely road legal."
The P Zero Trofeo R "has been further refined in a joint effort from Pirelli and McLaren to work from Pirelli's renowned research and development division," say Pirelli officials.
"To meet McLaren's brief for a tire that is bespoke to the 765LT, Pirelli's engineers have worked won the structure and profile of the tires, increasing the contact patch to generate more mechanical grip and improve traction, particularly in dry weather. Another fundamental element in achieving McLaren's objectives was the tread pattern compound. The tread pattern has been designed to guarantee the best possible road holding, both in a straight line and through corners, reducing braking distances and maximizing lateral grip."
