Myers Tire Supply Will Remain in Akron

Oct. 1, 2018

Myers Industries Inc. has reversed the decision to relocate its corporate headquarters and Myers Tire Supply offices from Akron, Ohio, to Cleveland.

On Sept. 12, 2018, the plastics products manufacturer and wholesale distributor of tire repair and retread products announced it would leave Akron for Cleveland. On Oct. 1, however, Myers Industries released a statement saying the move was canceled and the company was staying in Akron.

The company’s statement follows:

After extensive review and evaluation, we have decided to suspend our corporate headquarters and Myers Tire Supply (MTS) office relocation from Akron to Cleveland. When we first discussed the relocation several months ago, we felt it was a prudent business decision that supported our long-term strategy. Since then, we’ve determined that the costs associated with the move would be higher than anticipated and impacted our ability to create the open and collaborative space we envisioned. In addition, we want to focus our efforts on the business at hand and on implementing our strategy.

As we were looking for new space for our corporate headquarters and MTS offices, we entered into negotiations to sell our current property at 1293 South Main Street in Akron.  We are moving forward with the sale and will lease back the space we use for our corporate and MTS staff from the new owner. Our MTS distribution center relocation to 1554 South Main Street continues to move forward. Construction is on track and we expect to be in the new space by November 15, 2018.

We look forward to continuing to serve our customers and provide a great place to work in our existing office space in Akron.

Myers Tire Supply is a business unit of Myers Industries. Myers Industries was founded in Akron in 1933.
