Yokohama goes to seed in a good way

May 10, 2011

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd. has helped outside groups plant nearly 50,000 seedlings in Japan and overseas as part of its commitment to the Yokohama Forever Forest Project. They were delivered for use at a total of 81 locations.

After 2,150 seedlings were contributed in Yokohama's fiscal year 2009 and 6,946 in fiscal year 2010, the number jumped sharply to 40,695 in fiscal year 2011. Yokohama's fiscal years end on March 31.

In addition to promoting environmental awareness outside the company, the three-year-old project has a goal of planting 500,000 trees at Yokohama sites around the world (see "Yokohama has planted 183,000 trees!").

The Yokohama Forever Forest Project was started in 2007 and is creating forests at domestic and overseas production sites in anticipation of the company's 100th anniversary in 2017.
