McGee plus eight: Florida dealer expands

April 19, 2011

McGee Auto Service & Tires is 40% larger than it was at the beginning of the year. With the recent addition of eight former Superior Auto Service Centers, the Lakeland, Fla.-based retail and commercial tire dealer has 28 stores in-state.

The eight stores are located in the greater Tampa area. Two are in Bradenton; the other stores are in Clearwater, Largo, Port Richey, Sarasota, St. Petersburg and Pinellas Park.

McGee Tire runs 25 retail tire stores and three commercial truck service facilities. Each retail store offers Uniroyal, Kelly, Hankook, General, Michelin, Goodyear, Dunlop and Continental tires, plus a full range of automotive services, such as:

* wheel alignment,

* brake work,

* exhaust repairs,

* air conditioning,

* diagnostics and

* tune-ups.

At the Lakeland commercial outlet, McGee Tire has a Goodyear retread plant. McGee Tire retreads 125 truck tires a day, and is the 86th largest retreader on the Modern Tire Dealer “Top 100” retreaders list.

“We are passionately committed to customer care for each and every customer,” says President Mike McGee. “It is our belief that we are in the customer satisfaction business, rather than the auto repair and tire business.”

McGee Auto Service was formed on August 10th, 1974, as a two-outlet O.K. Tire Store dealership. In early 1979, founder John McGee initiated the successful transition to a fully authorized Goodyear dealership.

The purchase of Superior Auto Service was the company’s second major acquisition in the last three years. In 2009, it acquired five locations, including four in Tampa and one in New Smyrna Beach.
