Team Falken to defend its back-2-back victories at Petit Le Mans

Oct. 1, 2015

Fresh from a fourth place finish in the GTLM class at the TUDOR United Sports Car Lone Star Le Mans race at Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX, Team Falken and its Porsche 911 RSR head to Road Atlanta prepared to threepeat their victory in their class, a very rare, but possible, achievement.

It will be the final race for Team Falken as it ends its six-year sportscar racing program in the TUSC and its predecessor, the American Le Mans Series.  An endurance master, due in part to the strength, tenacity and durability of Falken’s AZENIS tire, and the superb driving skills of the disciplined and skilled driving partnership of Bryan Sellers and Wolf Henzler, Team Falken has consistently proven its capabilities through its dual victories at the 10-hour Petit Le Mans, as well as races as diverse as Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and the street course of the Baltimore Grand Prix, on which it has won twice.

With race veteran Derrick Walker as the team’s manager, Team Falken has enjoyed strong results throughout its program, though some finishes were not as strong as the team had desired.  However, Falken – a leader in high performance on- and off-road tires for both cars and trucks – has successfully leveraged its association with the top rung of sportscar racing in North America to its advantage, building awareness of its brand as well as winning new customers and retailers.

“This has definitely been one of the most rewarding experiences our company has undertaken in the more than 30 years Falken has been here in the U.S.,” stated Rick Brennan, Falken’s Executive Director of Marketing.  “We have successfully used motorsports – and continue to do so – to build our brand and demonstrate our products’ capabilities.  We’re very serious when we say that what we learn from the track or the rock climb goes into perfecting our tires.”

“We will miss being a part of the TUDOR series,” added Nick Fousekis, Falken Director of Motorsports and Event Marketing, “but we have won more than races; we’ve won lifelong friends and many customers who have supported our efforts, including competitors.  We are extremely grateful to Porsche Cars North America for all its assistance over the years.  The 911 RSR is a fantastic car and every year it simply gets better and better.

“Wolf and Bryan have been the pillars to our program, and to say they get better and better every year is simply an understatement,” Fousekis continued.  “They’re champions in their own right, and it has been a pleasure to watch them work.  We look forward to it one more time in our Falken-liveried machine.”

“Sellers and Henzler will be joined by Porsche Factory Driver Patrick Long at Petit, and together, the trio will do all of us at Falken proud,” summed up Bradley Lim, Falken’s TUSC Supervisor. “It will likely be the fastest 10 hours we’ve ever seen, but regardless of the finish, it will be a bittersweet finale.”

The final round of the 2015 TUSC season will be the 10-hour Petit Le Mans October 1-3 at Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA, featuring all four classes.
