The Tire Industry Association (TIA) is holding its 20th Global Tire Expo – Powered by TIA this year, again as part of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show. It will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center from Tuesday through Friday, Oct. 31 – Nov. 3.
TIA will be hosting its pre-show special events including a cocktail hour, the Tire Industry Honors awards ceremony, and the TIA welcome reception on Monday, Oct. 30. “The Tire Industry Association is excited to join SEMA for the 20th anniversary of the Global Tire Expo (GTE) in Las Vegas,” says Roy Littlefield, executive vice president, TIA. “The staff at TIA is looking forward to introducing some exciting new educational session this year that touch on important topics from addressing the biggest challenges for technicians to driving the millennial consumer to your business.
“We also invite participants to join our 2017 Legislative Review that will address the White House administration’s impact on the current state of the tire industry,” Littlefield adds. “We hope that everyone will take advantage of all the resources and opportunities that GTE and TIA has to offer, and be sure to visit our booth #40069.” Here is a schedule of events.

Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week: an automotive extravaganza
The Tire Industry Association’s Global Tire Expo and the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show held at the Las Vegas Convention Center are both part of the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Week (AAIW) running Oct. 31 -Nov. 3.
Completing the all-things automotive extravaganza is the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) held at the Sands Expo in Las Vegas Oct. 31 - Nov. 2.
AAPEX 2017 is bringing experts to discuss automotive technology and the biggest opportunities and challenges it presents for auto repair shops. Several AAPEX programs will address and spotlight automotive technology, including the new Mobility Park, the new Technology Intersection, AAPEXedu sessions, Let’s Tech presentations and a Service Professionals Summit.
Joe Register, director of emerging technologies for the Auto Care Association, will be among the experts on hand during AAPEXedu sessions.
Register says, “One of the biggest opportunities is replacement and calibration services for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) devices, such as LIDAR, radar and image processing, which offer new revenue opportunities for progressive repair shops, provided they have the right equipment and properly trained technicians.”
He adds, “A real game changer is the possibility of remote diagnosis enabled by vehicle telematics, which has the potential to move the industry from scheduled routine maintenance services, to predictive maintenance based on information obtained from on-board fault detection and isolation (FDI) systems.”
Brian Daugherty, chief technology officer, Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA), also will be among the expert speakers at AAPEX 2017. He says, “One exciting opportunity on the horizon is vehicle-to-vehicle communications systems — also known as V2V systems.
“The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has proposed that V2V safety warning systems be required on all new light vehicles. If that rule making is finalized, V2V will quickly become available in the aftermarket as well.
“These systems will require wiring, GPS and V2V antennas, Electronic Control Units, and display screens. Installing and maintaining these systems will become a rapidly growing business opportunity for aftermarket shops and repair facilities.”
