What a surprise: high-priced parts at car dealerships

March 22, 2009

Is $109.89 too much to pay for a fuel filter? Would you be surprised to find out that part came from a car dealership?

Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich went on a fuel filter price hunt after taking his Saturn SL1 in for service. "The dealer told me he didn't have the aftermarket part, and ordered it from the local Saturn dealer," he says.

What followed was not a surprise: an extensive markup at the car dealership level. Ulrich discusses what that means for you in his latest blog, "The price is right for independent tire dealers."
