Uniroyal soccer program celebrates anniversary

Jan. 29, 2009

For the last 10 years, Michelin North America Inc. and its Uniroyal tire dealers have been supporting soccer organizations across the country through its Uniroyal Soccer Program.

In celebration of its 10th anniversary, Uniroyal dealers will be giving away a soccer ball every day in 2009. More than 875,000 soccer balls have been given away to more than 3,000 youth leagues since the program started.

At the end of the year, one person will be selected from the 365 daily winners and awarded the Uniroyal Tire Soccer Season Survival grand prize. This prize includes the top 10 things a family needs to survive a soccer season, such as a $500 gas card, a camera/video recorder, a GPS system, and a set of Uniroyal tires.

“We’re proud to say what started as a small, grassroots initiative for 200 Uniroyal dealers has grown into an international program reaching the communities of over 1,000 Uniroyal Tire dealers in the U.S. and Canada,” says Kaz Holley, Uniroyal tire brand director.

The program is completely turn-key for its participants, according to Michelin. Many dealers, however, have taken extra steps to develop strong relationships with the soccer leagues they support.

One such dealer is Todd Haley, of Brothers Tire Sales Inc. in Kannapolis, N.C., who sets up a booth during the South Rowan YMCA Fall Soccer League’s picture day and hands out the certificates directly to the parents and children. He also has games and giveaways throughout the day.

The low cost of participation is eligible for reimbursement through Michelin and BFGoodrich tire co-op funds. Dealers interested in getting more information or enrolling in the program should call the Uniroyal Soccer Hotline at 877-894-3314 or email [email protected].

The contest will continue until Dec. 31, 2009. To enter, or to see the official rules go to www.uniroyaltires.com/sweeps.
