Nexen N9000 wins design award

March 13, 2012

Nexen Tire Corp. recently won the “Red Dot Design Award 2012” for its N9000 tire.

The Red Dot Design Award is one of the top three design awards in the world, according to Lee Hyun Bong, CEO of Nexen Tire. “This is a great achievement for design management as it comes after the IF Design Award 2010 and Good Design Award 2011.”

The contest dates back to 1955 and is now one of the world’s largest and most distinguished design competitions held by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany. There are prize categories for product design, communication design, and design concepts. In 2012, 1,800 large companies and independent designers from 58 countries registered within the competition's 19 different categories, and a total of 4,515 registrations were submitted.

N9000 is developed for sports cars and sporty coupes and provides maximum traction on wet and dry roads. The lightning shape pattern design features optimum water drainage and grip on wet roads and it improves cornering stability at high speeds, the company notes. Also, four straight wide grooves upgrade drainage and anti-hydroplaning performance.

The winners will be presented at the Red Dot Design Museum in Germany and Singapore.

“I am very satisfied to say that Nexen Tire’s design management is now globally recognized by winning this award,” says Lee. “Nexen Tire will continue to make every effort on design management and quality management for product competitiveness in the global market.”
