Yokohama's BluEarth gets (and will get) noticed

Feb. 20, 2012

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd.'s flagship BluEarth-1 fuel-efficient tire recently received the Pneu Expo Innovations Trophy for environmental actions at Pneu Expo 2012. The tire-industry exhibition was held Feb. 7-9 in France.

The Pneu Expo Innovations Trophy recognizes excellence in three categories:

1. environmental actions,

2. shop equipment innovations, and

3. service innovations.

There is one winner per category. Yokohama received the trophy for environmental actions, which recognizes its efforts, products and services contributing to environmental preservation.

BluEarth-1 was developed based on Yokohama's global BluEarth concept of "being human and socially friendly combined with improvements to environmental performance." It incorporates Yokohama's latest environmental technologies such as nano blend rubber, orange oil and an Airtex Advanced liner.

Yokohama's fuel-efficient BluEarth line also will be showcased at the 82nd Geneva Motor Show in Geneva, Switzerland. The upcoming show will run from March 6-18.

On display will be Yokohama's new BluEarth AE-01 tire, which will be launched in Europe in March. The AE-01, a standard tire for passenger cars, will be available in 40 sizes ranging from 205/55R16 91H to 155/80R13 79T.

Eventually, the tire will be available worldwide, adds Yokohama.
