TWI Is Expanding Its Distribution Space in Michigan
Tire Wholesalers Inc. (TWI) is building a distribution center more than twice the size of its existing space in Troy, Mich., and expects to move into the new site in January 2023.
The company, which operates four distribution centers in Michigan and Indiana, says the new 275,401-square-foot location is being custom built in Oak Park, Mich., and it is 18 miles away in Oak Park from the existing 100,000-square-foot distribution center in Troy.
Construction is set to begin in April. The new building will have 32-foot ceilings, 44 dock doors, 57 trailer parking stalls and 196 auto parking places.
“The business has really grown in the past five years, and we’re grateful to move to a new location with more space, where we can further update our warehouse technology and logistics systems,” says TWI Founder Ross Kogel Sr.
Kogel founded the business in 1970.
Along with the move, TWI is planning to belatedly celebrate its 50th anniversary throughout 2022. In-person open house events for customers will be held at three of the company's warehouses:
- May 5: Troy, Mich.
- June 16 : Cadillac, Mich.
- Sept. 15: Hammond, Ind.
TWI will gives away more than $20,000 in prizes at each open house. Each open house traditionally attracts more than 400 tire dealers from the Detroit, northern Michigan and Chicago markets, along with all of TWI's suppliers.
