Nexen Tire Finishes Drift Season In 2nd Place

Oct. 11, 2016

This weekend over 600,000 viewers around the world tuned in to watch a live streaming of the “Title Fight” at the House of Drift, Irwindale Speedway.

Thousands of Formula Drift fans gathered at the race track to watch the final battle. After eight rounds across America, six podiums and two victories, Nexen finished in 2nd place for the Manufacturer Tire Cup. Nexen’s top placing driver, Fredric Aasbo, also finished 2nd place overall in the Driver Championship after taking three podiums with two victories in the SR by Toyota tC. Fredric Aasbo fell a few points short of winning the season championship when losing his battle to round eight’s eventual winner, Matt Field.

This was Nexen Tire’s first season at Formula Drift with the N’Fera SUR4 Ultra High Performance tire. Fredric Aasbo in Rockstar Energy SR by Toyota tC, Ken Gushi in Greddy Performance SR by Toyota 86, Tanner Foust in Rockstar Energy VW Passat, Alec Hohnadell in Enjuku Racing Nissan S14, Jhonnattan Castro in SR by Toyota 86, and Dan Burkett in RAD Industries Toyota Supra all contributed to Nexen’s success this year and helped to show the world that Nexen Tire is a force to be reckoned with in the motorsports segment.

“Grip is a key factor in the sport of drifting, and after teaming up with Nexen this year we've had one of the fastest cars out there - and still retained our signature consistent performance level. Earning the Top Qualifier Award is a testament to the consistency of Nexen tires,” said Aasbo.

Nexen would like to thank all the fans who followed and cheered along with them this year, live at the events and also on social media. Next year will definitely be filled with just as much, if not more, tire burning excitement.
