The Bridgestone Americas Inc. passenger and light truck tire plant in Aiken County, South Carolina has earned he International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS recognition for its transparency and traceability of sustainable raw materials.
Bridgestone is aiming to make tires from fully sustainable materials by 2050.
“Step by step, we are working to overcome the technological and market barriers to fully sustainable and renewable tires made with bio-sourced and recycled materials,” says Nizar Trigui, chief technology officer and group president at Bridgestone Americas. “This ISCC PLUS certification for our Aiken County Plant is an important mile marker in our journey to become a leading sustainable solutions company.”
The tiremaker says this is the first U.S. tire manufacturing facility to earn the certification.
This same plant is powered by about eight acres of solar panels. More than 1,700 employees work at the facility, which began production in 1997.
