Commercial Tire Buys GCR Store, Retread Plant

Oct. 31, 2022

Commercial Tire Inc. has bought two of the final pieces of the GCR Tires & Service business from Bridgestone Americas Inc. — a commercial location and retread plant in Spokane, Wash.

Bridgestone confirmed the sale to Commercial Tire, which prior to the sale had 15 commercial locations, 27 combined retail-commercial stores and three retread plants.

Bridgestone is retaining nine GCR stores and two retread plants. They'll be part of a GCR Mining business operation.

Otherwise, this closes the books on the longstanding GCR business. In addition to Commercial Tire's purchase of a store and retread plant, two of the nation's largest commercial tires acquired 49 GCR locations and 10 retread plants. Southern Tire Mart bought 26 GCR stores and five retread plants, while Pomp's Tire Service purchased 23 GCR locations and five retread plants.

In August 2021 Kal Tire purchased 15 GCR locations in eastern Canada, plus a pair of retread plants and an off-the-road tire repair facility.
