Bridgestone Americas Inc. says it is the final stages of selling 25 GCR Tires & Service locations and four retread plants to a couple of "strategic buyers."

According to a Bridgestone spokesperson, those companies include Pomp's Tire Service Inc. and an unidentified firm.

"As part of this transaction, nine GCR stores and two plants will be retained by Bridgestone and transitioned into GCR Mining," say Bridgestone officials.

"The sale of these GCR locations to strategic independent dealers is part  of an ongoing effort to strengthen and secure Bridgestone's commercial tire distribution network in the U.S. to deliver long-term sales growth."

The transactions are expected to finalize later this month.

Columbia, Miss.-based Southern Tire Mart - the largest independent commercial tire dealership in the United States - recently acquired 26 GCR locations and several retread plants from Bridgestone Americas Inc., as reported in this MTD exclusive.

Pomp's Tire Service - which is based in Green Bay, Wis. - recently acquired Tredroc Tire Services Inc.
