USTMA Predicts 400,000 Fewer Tires Shipped in 2022

Dec. 1, 2022

The U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) is projecting 2022 total tire shipments will drop by about 400,000 units compared to the prior year. While original equipment shipments have rebounded in all categories, replacement consumer tire shipments aren't holding up to 2021 levels.

Combined, the USTMA expects U.S. tire shipments to total 334.8 million units, down 0.1% from the 335.2 million units in 2021. (Pre-pandemic shipments in 2019 totaled 332.7 million units.)

While the replacement passenger and light truck tire shipments are both expected to decline, replacement truck tire shipments look to be the strongest of any category, with a 15.3% increase in units expected.
