Nexen Tire leads Points Battle In Formula Drift

Aug. 9, 2016

Nexen Tire’s Ken Gushi, in the Greddy Performance / SR by Toyota 86, qualified in 6th place on Friday during Formula Drift Round 6, The Throwdown, at Evergreen Speedway in Seattle, Washington.

Gushi went on to have a close battle with Tyler McQuarrie in the Great 8 after beating Robbie Nishida in the Top 16. Gushi’s hard work and determination help him finished the night on the podium in 3rd place.

“With every run we made this weekend, the 86 felt faster and stronger.  I felt like I had the advantage with Nexen’s N’Fera SUR4’s pushing me all the way to the podium,” said Gushi. “My Greddy team did an absolutely fantastic job in making the necessary shock and alignment changes to find the ideal balance in power and grip for this venue.”

Gushi now holds 5th place in driver championship points, and with two races left, there’s still a chance he can finish the Drift season on top.

Tanner Foust, in his Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire / Volkswagen Passat, took a long break after round 2 and came back ready for tandem.  Foust had to take out one of his Nexen Tire teammates, Jhonnattan Castro, in the Top 16 in order to move on to the Great 8 where he battled Chris Forsberg.  After “One More Time”, Foust finished the race in 7th place. Faust will be returning for Round 7 in Texas.

Another Nexen Tire driver, Fredric Aasbo in his Rockstar Energy Drink / Nexen Tire / SR by Toyota tC, finished the night in 6th place after a defeat to the winner of the night, Aurimas Bakchis.  Aasbo is still in 2nd place for Driver Championship points, and he’s only five points behind the lead.
Nexen Tire took the lead in Tire Manufacturer Championship since Round 1 and continues to take the lead after Round 6.

The 2016 Formula Drift Pro Championship will continue to Round 7: Showdown on September 9-10, 2016 at Texas Motor Speedway.
