“None of us in the business today – and probably the last couple of generations – has had any kind of experience” like COVID-19, Dominic Umek, group business leader at Conrad’s Tire Express & Total Car Care, recently told me.
You can say that again, Dominic.
The onslaught of COVID-19, subsequent government restrictions and consumers’ reactions to those measures have had a profound impact on your business.
MTD’s editors have spent the better part of the last four weeks interviewing independent tire dealers throughout North America about what they are doing to protect the safety of their employees and customers, still sell tires and ultimately ensure the long-term survival of their businesses.
We’ve heard some amazing stories. (You can read some of them by clicking on the links below.)
And we’ll share more over the coming weeks and months.
In the meantime, we want to hear from you. How have you reacted to COVID-19? What adjustments have you made? What bright spots have you found despite the rampant “doom and gloom?” And how are you positioning your dealership for life after COVID-19?
As the quote shown in the photo that accompanies this blog entry says, “Adversity does not build character. It reveals it.”
Independent tire dealers have always been known for their toughness, ingenuity and resourcefulness.
And I’ve yet to meet one who has wilted in the face of adversity.
