Barnwell House of Tires recently showcased several environmentally friendly Goodyear medium truck tires at an event hosted by the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS).
Products displayed included a size 315/80R22.5 Goodyear Endurance WHA waste haul tire that features a soybean oil-based tread compound, says Scott Weeden, vice president of sales, Barnwell House of Tires, which is based in Central Islip, N.Y.
"We have customers who are interested in utilizing products that are having a safe impact on the environment. Goodyear has done a great job of creating and developing products that not only perform but are also environmentally sound.
"We service a ton of fleets in the New York City area, from garbage trucks to school buses,” says Weeden, who adds that Barnwell House of Tires has done “extensive tracking and monitoring” of the Goodyear Endurance WHA “in multiple New York City fleets.
"The retreadability of this tire can have a great impact on the environment. That – coupled with the soy used in the tire – makes the Endurance WHA a great choice for being a sustainable product that performs.”
Barnwell House of Tires co-branded its booth with NAPA. “We do a lot of business with NAPA,” says Weeden. “Co-branding with them makes sense to all parties as we all have the same goals: to protect the environment and reduce costs in fleets.
"Tires are generally a top-three cost in fleets, so reducing that number has a huge impact on a fleet’s balance sheet. We work really hard to keep fleets running optimally in New York City.”
Barnwell House of Tires, one of the largest tire dealerships in the U.S., according to MTD data, has attended the DCAS Fleet Show for nearly 10 years. This year’s event took place at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in the Queens borough of New York City.
