Continental Tire the Americas LLC is renaming some of its commercial tires in a way that the company says is designed to help tire dealers and fleets pinpoint a tire's application and usage at a glance.
The Conti Hybrid HS3 has been renamed the Conti HSL 3. The new name spells out the vehicle classification, axle configuration and application for the tire's designed use.
Here's how to read the Conti HSL 3 name:
it's a Heavy truck tire;
designed for Steer and all-position use;
in Long-Haul and super-regional applications.
The tire meets SmartWay requirements, and is different from the Conti EcoPlus HS3, the company's most fuel-efficient long-haul steer tire, by its flexibility for regional use.
Continental says the Conti HSL 3 provides smooth, even tread wear, long removal mileage and low rolling resistance. The Fuel Saving Edge technology is designed to increase application flexibility, making it a tire for super-regional applications, such as hub-and-spoke freight distribution.
The tire is available in the following sizes: 11R22.5 load ranges G and H, and 295/75R22.5 load ranges G and H. It is available under the new name starting in July, with all sizes expected to be available by August.
Continental is taking the same naming system to its commercial waste transport tire and retreads. The Conti HAU 3 WT is a Heavy truck tire; designed for All-position use; in Urban applications; for Waste Transport applications. The tire was formerly known as the Conti CityService HA3.
The ContiTread HAU 3 WT is the retread of the same pattern. The HAU 3 WT tire is available under the new name; the renaming of the retread's sizes wil occur over the next several months.
In the same family, the ContiTread HDU 3 WT is a Heavy truck pattern, designed for the Drive axle, in Urban applications, for Waste Transport. It's available as a retread in 210-280 mm widths, and is expected to be available under it's new name in August. It was previously known under the ContiTread CityService HD3.
