Myers posts sales, income declines

April 17, 2009

Myers Industries Inc.'s net sales for the first quarter of 2009 were $190.1 million, down $59.2 million from the same period last year.

Myers' income before taxes for the first quarter totaled $8.3 million, $5.5 million less than the first quarter of 2008.

Declines were the result of weaker volumes "as customers continued to purchase cautiously and reduce inventory," say Myers officials.

The Akron, Ohio-based company's Auto and Custom Segment sales "continued to be adversely affected by the severe downturn in original equipment markets."
