Yokohama Tests TPMS Sensor, Remote Monitoring System

Oct. 8, 2021

Yokohama Rubber Co. Ltd., parent of Yokohama Tire Corp., has started testing a new sensor that attaches to a tire's "inner surface," according to company officials.

Yokohama is developing the sensor and hopes to confirm its durability, as well as the ability of a newly developed system - Tire Air Pressure Remote Access System (TPRS) - to remotely monitor psi levels.

The Tokyo, Japan-based company also "aims to realize a new, value-added, tire-related business that provides tire pressure information and GPS location data."

"TPRS enables real-time monitoring of tire pressure, temperature and vehicle location" and is designed to "help prevent irregularities in inspection results, detect potential accident-causing abnormalities and improve fuel efficiency by ensuring maintenance of proper tire pressure."

Gathered data would be saved in a cloud server.
