Sullivan Tire to Celebrate 70 Years

March 21, 2025

Norwell, Mass.-based Sullivan Tire Co. Inc. will celebrate its 70th anniversary on April 1.

“From humble beginnings, Sullivan Tire has grown over the past seven decades to encompass more than 127 locations across five New England states, which include retail, commercial and distribution facilities and Liftworks, an automotive lift and shop equipment supplier,” according to Sullivan Tire officials.

In 1955, Bob Sullivan founded Sullivan Tire on a dead-end street in Rockland, Mass.

“For 16 years the company worked out of that one location. Everything was done outside in the New England elements. All of Mr. Sullivan’s 10 children would work for the company in some capacity over the years.

“As business grew, Sullivan began to hire non-family members. In 1971, they opened their second location and slowly began to open locations across Massachusetts and eventually into the neighboring states. Sullivan Tire’s reputation for providing exceptional customer service at fair prices fueled the growth that continues today.

“In 2023, the Sullivan family sold the business to its more than 1,500 employees, making Sullivan Tire one of the largest employee stock ownership plans in the country,” according to Sullivan Tire officials.

“We are so proud of this 70-year milestone and thrilled that we were able to pass this business on to our dedicated employees,” says Sullivan Tire Vice President of Marketing Paul Sullivan.

“We could not have done it without them. We thank the entire New England region for trusting us with their automotive needs and allowing us to grow over the past seven decades.”

The dealership - one of the largest in the U.S., according to the 2024 MTD 100 - will celebrate throughout the year with sales and promotions, in-store events and contests and giveaways to customers and employees.
