Paul Levengood Jr., in More Than a Few Words
When asked to describe Paul Levengood Jr. in one word, members of his leadership team used many words. Some said he’s a good listener. Another said that Paul is loyal. Another said Paul is a good mentor. And according to Paul "Skip" Levengood Sr., Paul’s father and founder of CJ’s Tires & Auto, Paul doesn’t like to lose. Here’s what they had to say:
Dennis Glowacki, vice president of operations: “Paul listens. It’s not just his agenda. He listens to input. And not only does he listen, he’ll ask, ‘Does that make sense?’ Whatever you tell him, he’ll chew on that mentally. He can be a little fiery at times. He gets that from his dad, but he sees it. He knows that’s happening and he’ll say, ‘OK, I’ll pull back. Let me think about that.’”
Brandon White, director of retail operations: “He’s a listener. He’ll pick up on cues and he’ll hear you out. It doesn’t matter if it’s completely off the wall, no idea is a silly idea with Paul. He wants to make sure he’s hearing everything he needs to make a good decision. But more importantly to him, he wants to help us make sure we’re making good decisions. He supports us through listening. Once he decides to go in a certain direction, he tries to give you the tools you need.”
Dave Stover, director of wholesale sales: “He’s a listener. I think to be a great leader, you have to understand every layer of your business and understand who’s talking to you and understand every angle. Paul has always been driven and determined, but listening is one of his big qualities, too. He’s engineer-like. Engineers think about things and they have to build them in their mind and figure out how to get to the outcome. That’s Paul.”
Mike Houck, vice president of finance: “The key word with Paul is loyalty. He also has vision and likes to take risks. And he doesn’t get down a whole lot. He has positivity.”
Leanne Bolger, senior director of marketing: “He lets you learn and doesn’t make you feel bad for making a mistake. I think that’s one of his best qualities. He’s really good at talking with people and motivating them. If you go into a meeting with Paul and you start talking about different things, you leave there with a different kind of energy than what you came in with. He believes in us, which is the biggest part of being a leader.”
Paul "Skip" Levengood Sr., founder of CJ's Tire & Auto: "I can think of so many words! He's very, very competitive. He doesn't like to lose. He's a winner. He doesn't do things to lose. He does things to win."
