Recall Covers 1,900 Falken WildPeak Tires

Dec. 15, 2023

Sumitomo Rubber USA LLC is recalling 1,900 Falken WildPeak tires due to a manufacturing error which may have resulted in a puncture in the tire’s sidewall.

The tires include Falken WildPeak AT3W in size 265/70R17 115T and WildPeak HT02 in size LT235/85R16 116S. The company estimates about half of the recalled tires are defective. A broken component of the curing press could have punctured tires as they exited the curing press. The press has since been repaired.

The WildPeak AT3W tires are those marked with this mold identification code: 1B9610. The tires were produced between July 24, 2023, and Aug. 23, 2023. Their tire identification numbers are:

  • Plant ID: DA
  • Size code: 70
  • Optional code: 3MDR
  •  M codes: 3023-3423.

The WildPeak HT02 tires include those marked with this mold identification code: 1D3667. The tires were produced between June 26, 2023, and July 22, 2023. Their tire identification numbers are:

  • Plant ID: 1DA
  • Size code: 9J
  • Optional code: PMWV
  • M codes: 2623-2923.

Vehicles equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) may detect a loss of air pressure in the tire.

Known tire owners will be contacted and asked to bring their vehicle/tires to an authorized dealer for replacement at no cost. Owners who registered their tires will be notified directly by mail. Sumitomo will also work with its distributors to obtain owner information, when possible.

All known customers, distributors and dealers will receive notification of the recall and instructions on how to identify the subject tires, and how to return and dispose of the subject tires. Dealers will be notified on Dec. 19, 2023. Owners are scheduled to be notified between Jan. 11-Jan. 14, 2024.

Owners may contact Sumitomo customer service at 1-877-763-0416. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.nhtsa.gov.
