Radar Tires set for TORC Brawl in Crandon

Eyeing a podium finish, Radar Tires heads to the track where dirt champions are crowned: the mecca of short course off-road dirt racing – Crandon International Off-Road Raceway. Three Radar Tires racers look to stand on the box at this weekend’s Big House Brawl, the seventh and eighth rounds of the TORC: The Off Road Championship.
 
Nearly 80 miles from Green Bay, Wis., Crandon International Off-Road Raceway is a natural terrain short-course dirt venue. A challenging one-mile, six-turn course, Crandon is known for its standing starts, fast straightaways and jumps that exceed 150 feet.
 
Radar Tires continues to use the LT265/75R16 and 32X11.50R15 Radar Renegade R5 tires for this two-day event. The tires will be used by Project648 Motorsports’ Luke Johnson and Cam Reimers Motorsports co-drivers Cam Reimers and Ian Harris, all in the PRO Light class.
 
“I’m happy to return to the ‘Big House in the north woods’ after being away for several years,” said Gary Blalock, Radar Tires Motorsports Manager. “Crandon is a special place with special people – the track personnel, fans, local businesses, even the mayor; all are big racing enthusiasts and really make you feel welcome there! It is also unique with its standing ‘land rush’ start - sort of like F1 on dirt, but funneling into a blind, downhill, off-camber, right-hander that is tricky enough to get right without everyone getting there at about the same time!
 
“Our Radar Renegade R5 tires should be a big advantage at the start as they really excel in longitudinal traction,” continued Blalock. “But Crandon always has surprises in store. The weather can be fickle and the high-speed nature of the circuit takes its toll on man and machines. Hopefully we can realize our potential and have big results at the Big House.” 
 
In his last PRO Light race at Crandon, Johnson – driver of the No. 14 Project648 Motorsports Nissan Frontier PRO Light – finished second. The California native was close to a podium when he finished fourth at Bark River earlier this month. Johnson and the Project648 Motorsports team used some downtime in between the Midwest races to test at Crandon.
 
Reimers, driver of the No. 21 SSI Decal/TiLube PRO Light, has two sixth-place finishes at Crandon. The motocross veteran likens Crandon to racing on asphalt where an error-free momentum-filled pace is the key to a solid race.  Reimers thinks he has an advantage when it comes to Crandon’s standing starts. With more than 1,000 starts under his belt, he knows the sweet spot between aggression and finesse when it comes to launching at the start with the Radar Renegade tires.
 
Harris, driver of the No. 22 SSI Decal/TiLube PRO Light, will also leverage his motocross experience in this weekend’s standing start. Harris, a PRO Light rookie is also keen on the quick turnaround from Bark River to Crandon. By competing at dirt tracks that are very similar within two weeks of each other, Harris should maintain a racing rhythm and momentum from the mid-May Bark River event.
 
The Radar Tires racers will practice, qualify and race at the two-day Big House Brawl event. Fans unable to attend the race at can tune into the Motor Trend YouTube channel for a live broadcast. The race can then be seen on NBC Sports at 6:30 p.m. ET on July 13.
