Falken's logo will 'climb' Mount Everest on TV

Feb. 11, 2014

Joby Ogwyn will climb to the summit of Mount Everest on live television. Then he will perform a more than 10,000-foot wing-suit jump to Base Camp.

And Falken Tire Corp. will be with him all the way.

Falken will serve as one of the primary sponsors of the expedition and accompanying Sherpa team. The event will air on the Discovery Channel as it happens in May. Ogwyn will wear the Falken logo on his wing-suit.

Ogwyn, well known for his high altitude climbs and subsequent jumps from some of the most demanding peaks in the world, will climb from Mount Everest’s Camp IV at 26,000 feet to the mountain’s summit of 29,035 feet before he descends to Base Camp.

“Clearly, this type of jump is something only a select few can attempt, let alone accomplish, and Falken Tire is very excited to be along for the ride,” says Richard Smallwood, CEO and president of Falken.

“We look forward to working with Discovery Channel and Joby in helping to bring this amazing challenge to viewers and be able to do so as it happens. This unique live airing definitely takes the concept of ‘action sports’ to a whole new level.

“As Falken grows, so does our consumer base, and we feel sponsoring a wide variety of events, from motorsports to Joby’s triumphs as a climber and flight-suit jumper, will generate the kind of awareness we relish -- as a brand like Joby... that pushes the envelope of performance,” says Smallwood.
