Hankook Kinergy Wins Chevy Trailblazer Fitment

June 15, 2020

Hankook Tire America Corp. will supply the 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer with the all-season Hankook Kinergy (H436).

“The Trailblazer RS will be equipped with (the Hankook) Kinergy 225/55R18H, and for the ACTIV trim level, Hankook will supply the Dynapro AT2 (RF11) 225/60R17H,” say Hankook officials. “Kinergy 215/65R16H tires will be available on the Trailblazer base model.”

The Hankook Kinergy GT “is designed for driving on different terrains and a number of road conditions.”

The tire features a unique tread design with a wide lateral groove that provides excellent water evacuation; a rigid center rib, which provides enhanced dry surface performance; an optimized lateral groove feature design for optimal winter traction and performance; and Hankook’s “patented high-grip silica,” which the company calls “the backbone of the Kinergy tread structure.”

In addition, a dual filler system that integrates high-dispersible silica “gives the Kinergy GT its characteristic rollover resistance for superior handling and performance, durability and comfort. The addition of Hankook’s Dynapro AT2 is an ideal complement to the Trailblazer’s style and offers drivers a blend of off-road traction and driving capabilities.”

“We are happy to continue our long-term partnership with Chevrolet and will be working with them to develop additional products for their vehicles,” says Hyunjun Cho, the head of Hankook’s OE division.

“The Trailblazer is designed to provide driving performance for varying active lifestyles,” adds Robert Wheeler, the head of Hankook Tire America’s technical center. “To match this range of driving needs, we teamed with General Motors (GM) to develop these tires by applying our virtual performance prediction capabilities in collaboration with our designers and engineers in materials, testing and manufacturing.”

Hankook started supplying original equipment tires to GM in 2002 and continues to equip GM vehicles, including the Chevrolet Malibu, Equinox, Spark, and Sonic; the GMC Terrain; and others.
