Yokohama Suspends Production at U.S. Truck Tire Plant

March 27, 2020

Yokohama Tire Corp. has suspended production at its truck tire plant in West Point, Miss., as of March 28.

“The controlled shutdown at Yokohama Tire Manufacturing Mississippi (YTMM) is in response to the impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic and is expected to last for a period of two weeks,” according to Yokohama officials.

“In order to continue to service customers, the plant’s shipping department will maintain normal operations, along with other key maintenance related actives. In addition, the plant is taking sterilization and decontamination measures, to ensure the health and safety of all personnel upon their return.”

Yokohama says its supply position “remains strong, but the company will work closely with dealers to mitigate any unexpected disruptions.”

YTMM can produce 3,000 truck tires per day at maximum capacity, according to MTD’s 2020 Facts Issue.

Preventative measures to stem the spread of COVID-19 are in effect at all Yokohama facilities.
