Stoyer, who was born near Youngstown, Ohio, enjoyed a long, distinguished career in journalism, working for the Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal for 15 years, the Lapeer County Press in Michigan and other publications. Stoyer joined MTD at a pivotal time in its history, according to MTD Publisher Greg Smith.

“At heart, Lloyd was a reporter’s reporter and had sources everywhere,” he says. “He was extremely respected by both independent tire dealers and tire company executives, and used his influential voice to champion the interests of our readers. He was tough but fair, and was unafraid to take positions that he believed were important. His dedication and work further cemented MTD’s position as the tire industry’s leading publication.”
