Snider Tire Inc. has partnered with a U.K.-based company to bring real-time drive-over tire management technology to U.S. fleets.
The U.K. company is WheelRight Ltd. Snider Tire, which goes to market as Snider Fleet Solutions, has “made a significant ownership investment” in WheelRight, according to a press release.
Snider is now an authorized distributor offering WheelRight’s technology to its customers, which include of the nation’s largest trucking fleets.
The WheelRight system requires commercial vehicles to drive over ground-installed sensors, which instantly record key data such as tire pressure, tread depth, sidewall damage, vehicle weight and tire temperature. The sensors detect and flag potential issues. Snider says benefits include time savings, reduced fuel consumption, enhanced safety and compliance, and reducing costly ERS (emergency roadside service) events.
Initial tests with fleets here in the U.S. are producing significant ERS reductions, according to Snider officials.
“This is game-changing technology in fleet management. Air pressure and tread depth are just the beginning of what this technology will one day be able to provide,” says Keith Allen, vice president of sales for Snider. “It reduces operational costs for fleets and also importantly, makes our roads safer for everyone.”
The drive-over system is the culmination of years of R&D, according to WheelRight CEO Jason Power. “Now we get to see our company mission deliver results in the U.S., thanks to our partnership with Snider.”
Snider Fleet Solutions has grown from a single tire store opened in 1976 to one of the largest commercial tire service companies in the nation, operating 11 distribution centers, nine retread plants, and 80 commercial and mechanical locations serving over 38 states.
The company’s offerings include mechanical services, industrial tires, and OTR tires, as well as technologies to help customers manage fleets more efficiently.
Snider Tire is No. 3 on MTD’s list of top independent commercial tire dealers and holds the No. 3 spot on MTD’s ranking of the nation’s largest retreaders. On the Modern Tire Dealer 100 list of the nation’s largest independent tire dealers, Snider Tire is tied for No. 15.
