At the 2018 Tire Industry Association (TIA) Annual Meeting in Las Vegas, more happened than just the ceremonial transfer of the gavel between outgoing President David Martin and incoming President John Evankovich, although that deserves mention, too.
“It has been a pleasure and an honor to serve as president of a thriving organization like TIA, the Tire Industry Association, and I wish you the same level of success in the year ahead,” said Martin to Evankovich prior to the transfer.
Attendees found out the association continues to be financially strong. It also found out how strong the relationship between TIA and the U.S. Tire Manufacturers Association (USTMA) is becoming.
Following a strong fiscal 2016, Treasurer Mike Wolfe reported the good news for fiscal 2017 and beyond.
“I am pleased to report that we enter the 2017 fiscal year operationally in the black,” he said. “The 2018 fiscal year is going well, and we are in line for budget.
“Our membership numbers are steadily increasing, and our reserve account balance remains strong.
“As always, the executive committee and board of directors will continue to monitor TIA’s financials, and will make any necessary adjustments to keep the association in a solid financial position.”
There was one TIA resolution announced.
“Whereas, TIA recognizes the significance and impact of speaking in one industry voice;
Whereas, TIA urges all sectors of the tire industry to utilize modern technology in the development and implementation of an improved new tire registration program; and
Whereas, TIA urges tire manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, and dealers to develop a tire recall strategy to greatly improve the percentage of tires successfully recalled; and
Whereas, TIA USTMA, and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) are encouraged to work together to develop a motorist education program to educate drivers on the new registration and recall procedures;
Now therefore be it resolved by TIA, assembled this 29th day of October, 2018, in General Assembly that TIA and USTMA continue on the road of cooperation, support, and respect to address all issues of concern, conflict, and contention in the tire industry to provide real world solutions to serious safety issues to improve mobility safety on the nation’s roads.”
The resolution passed without a single “Nay” vote.
