CIMS applauds tire registration rule

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) final rule on electronic tire registration "is a tremendous opportunity for tire dealers," says Paul Kruder, president of tire registration service provider CIMS.

"We know NHTSA moved in the right direction by giving tire dealers the option to complete the tire registration process electronically for the consumer.

Beyond that, "probably the most important point that NHTSA makes is that tire registration is still the law," says Kruder. "Tire dealers must provide tire purchasers with a method to have their tires registered. Dealers must remember it is still their responsibility either to provide every tire purchaser with a completed tire registration form or complete the process electronically on their behalf."
