Bridgestone/Firestone-Ford supply agreement ends

April 8, 2003

Bridgestone Americas Holding Inc. is no longer supplying tires to Ford Motor Co. in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Bridgestone/Firestone sent its final shipment of tires to Ford on April 1 after 97 years of supplying the auto manufacturer with product.

"All along we've said we didn't want to negatively impact Ford's ability to hit its production goals," says a Bridgestone/Firestone spokesman.

"We even extended some supply contracts to ensure there'd be no interruption of their production."

Bridgestone Americas Chairman, CEO and President John Lampe announced that the tiremaker was severing ties with Ford nearly two years ago.

Parent company Bridgestone Corp. continues to supply Ford with tires in other parts of the world like Europe and Asia.
