Bridgestone's Garfield Takes Helm of RMA Board

Nov. 13, 2015

Gary Garfield, CEO and president of Bridgestone Americas Inc. (BSAM), will serve as chairman of the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) board of directors.

Garfield succeeds Pete Selleck, chairman and president of Michelin North America Inc., who served as RMA board chairman since 2013.

“Gary will continue a trend of strong leadership as chairman of the RMA board of directors,” says Charles Cannon, RMA CEO and president, who is retiring from the RMA at the end of 2015. “RMA is well-served by an active, involved and decisive board of directors, and Gary’s tenure will no doubt continue that firm guidance for the association.”

Garfield oversees BSAM operations across five continents. BSAM accounts for about 45% of the global revenue of Bridgestone operations worldwide, making it the company's largest subsidiary. With more than 55,000 teammates worldwide, BSAM manufactures and markets a wide range of tires for a variety of applications primarily under the Bridgestone and Firestone brands. BSAM also owns and operates an automotive service and tire retailer, commercial roofing and building products company, and vehicle and equipment air spring technology company.

“RMA is poised to enter a new era of growth as investments in the U.S. by tire manufacturers continue,” says Garfield. “Continued public policy challenges on environmental, safety advocacy and other matters will continue to be a focus of the association.”

Garfield was elected in October at the RMA board of directors meeting and will serve a two-year term.
