Yokohama Gets in Bed with Gov. Bryant

Oct. 15, 2015

Thanks in large part to Governor Phil Bryant, Yokohama Tire Corp. is manufacturing truck tires in West Point, Miss., a

s you read this. In only two years, the 570-acre plot of land in Clay County went from pasture to production.

And more plans are in store for both the property and the "automotive corridor" in which it is located. Maybe Bryant is aiming to be the next Nikki Haley, the South Carolina governor who has convinced at least 1,000 tire companies to open up plants there (well, it seems like it's that many).

At the recent Yokohama truck tire plant opening festivities, Gov. Bryant was both complimentary and humble. And a little political, too.

Modern Tire Dealer Editor Bob Ulrich was with the governor from start to finish; to read his report, check out the following blog: "Yokohama Plays Politics and Wins Big in Mississippi."
