Chairman: more on Camso's off-the-road plans
The former Camoplast Solideal Inc. has never been more focused, and its new name, Camso Ltd., reflects that.
So does the company's new tagline, "Camso, the Road Free company." Its core business, producing and marketing off-the-road tires (up to 25 inches) and track systems, represents 11% of the global tire and track market.
And it will remain 100% dedicated to its core business, says Chairman and CEO Pierre Marcouiller.
"We'll always be 'Road Free,' I can assure you that. I think to serve this market, you need to be.
"We want to be recognized as a provider of innovative solutions in the off-the-road market," he says. That includes both the replacement and original equipment markets.
Camso manufactures and supplies tires, wheels, tracks and track systems to the following four market segments: material handling, construction, agriculture and powersports. Most of the wheel sales are to OEMs.
While the Canadian company has expanded more than 10 fold over the last seven years – it surpassed $1 billion in sales last year – there is room for not only increased sales but also expansion into other market segments, according to Marcouiller.
Following a transition period, the Camso name will become the master brand for its OTR tires, tracks and track systems.
Marcouiller says it will take some time to re-brand all the products to Camso. However, the change is immediate in the company's construction business unit. All the company's tires are manufactured in Sri Lanka.
Along with the name change and renewed focus, Camso is moving into a new global center of operations in Magog, Quebec, near the old headquarters in Sherbrooke. The new base includes a research and development center for Camso tracks and track systems.
