TIA webinar to focus on credit card processing

May 29, 2015

The Tire Industry Association (TIA) is hosting a free webinar on credit card processing at 2 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.

The webinar, "Credit Card Processing and Preparing for EMV," will be hosted by HotRod Processing, a credit card processing vendor.

Embedded chip technology of Europay, MasterCard and Visa (EMV) technology is coming to the United States as a replacement for the legacy magnetic stripe on credit cards. EMV will require significant equipment upgrades for retailers who elect to support it. Although EMV is not a mandate, merchants that do not upgrade to EMV compliant card terminals by Oct. 1, 2015, face a potential liability shift for counterfeit, lost and stolen card fraud.

By that date liability for fraudulant transactions will shift to the party with the lesser technology — either the retailer or the issuer of the card. If a customer uses a chip-embedded card at an establishment with only magnetic stripe technology, that business would be liable for any fraud, for instance.

This webinar is geared toward tire dealers who want to learn more about EMV and how HotRod Processing can save them money with their credit card processing system.

“We are pleased to offer this webinar from HotRod Processing to the industry. The webinar will help tire dealers to better understand EMV and the resources that HotRod Processing can provide to help dealers with the transition,” said TIA Executive Vice President Roy Littlefield.

The webinar is complimentary and open to all TIA members and prospective members. Interested participants should register online.
